Independent Ford P1000 & OBD Readiness Guide

Post-reset

P1000 After Battery Disconnect or Replacement

Power loss can clear keep-alive memory and return OBD monitors to not ready. P1000 in that setting is expected status, not automatic proof the battery is defective.

P1000 after a battery job is often expected readiness reset — not automatic proof the new battery is defective.

The new battery is not automatically bad

A weak battery or poor connection can cause other symptoms and codes. P1000 after a successful replacement, however, commonly reflects lost readiness memory. Confirm the vehicle charges and cranks normally, then read monitors.

Inspection readiness may be affected

If you have an emissions appointment soon after a battery job, incomplete monitors can matter even when the truck drives well. See P1000 and smog check — rules are local.

Do not repeatedly disconnect the battery to “fix” it

That restarts readiness

Another disconnect repeats the reset. It does not complete monitors.

Also check other codes

If misfire, charging, or fuel codes appeared around the same time, those are separate from P1000.

It often drops after required monitors complete. There is no guaranteed mile count. Recheck with a scan tool.
